Abbot’s Kneecap Returned After 70 Years

A bone fragment believed to be a kneecap from a 13th-century abbot has been returned to Glastonbury Abbey after being missing for 70 years. The fragment was taken by George Box, who passed away last year, at the age of 11 during a school trip to the abbey in the summer of 1956.

The return of the kneecap was facilitated by Box’s family, who decided to return the item following his death. The fragment is now in the custody of the abbey, where it is expected to be preserved as part of its historical collection.
