Study reveals impact of shootings on public schools in Salvador
A study reveals that more than half of public schools in Salvador were affected by shootings in 2025, impacting school days and student safety.
More than half of the public schools in Salvador experienced disruptions on at least ten school days due to shootings occurring within a radius of up to one kilometer, according to a study conducted by the Instituto Fogo Cruzado and released this Thursday (13).
The research, titled "The Geography of Exposure: Gunfire, Territory, and Affected Schools in Salvador," indicates that between 10 and 20 school days were impacted in more than 130 schools during the year 2025.
About 59% of the shootings recorded in Salvador between 2023 and 2025 occurred during school days, compromising the safety and mobility of students in the city's public education units.
The study also reveals that a significant number of incidents are concentrated in just eight neighborhoods of the capital, which account for approximately 20% of the shootings.
