NFF Issues Apology Following Super Falcons' WAFCON Exit

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a formal apology to President Tinubu and the Nigerian public following the Super Falcons' failure to secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup during the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

This acknowledgment of disappointment was expressed by NFF president Igho Tanimu, who noted the federation's awareness of the emotional investment of millions of Nigerians who supported the team throughout the tournament.

In a related statement, Super Falcons striker Uchenna Kanu shared that the players experienced significant distress following their quarter-final defeat to Cameroon, with some struggling to eat the day after the match.

The Falcons were eliminated after a 1-0 loss, which ended their hopes of automatic qualification for the World Cup. The team had aimed for a strong showing in the tournament.
