Hungary plans artificial increase of Danube water level for nuclear power plant
Hungary aims to raise the Danube's water level to secure cooling for the Paks nuclear power plant, reports Prime Minister Magyar.
Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar has announced plans to artificially raise the water level of the Danube due to low levels. This is necessary to ensure cooling for the Paks nuclear power plant.
The construction of a so-called "weir" is planned to help raise the water level. This measure comes in response to the current drought, which has significantly lowered the water levels.
In Germany, however, the plans are met with criticism. Environmentalists and representatives of the Greens are protesting against the proposals, fearing ecological impacts from the intervention.
