Eugénio Fonseca, former president of the Diocesan Caritas of Setúbal, has passed away at age 69, as confirmed by Cardinal D. Américo Aguiar.

Eugénio Fonseca, who was president of the Portuguese Confederation of Volunteering, died on Wednesday at the age of 69. His death was confirmed by Cardinal D. Américo Aguiar.

Fonseca dedicated nearly 30 years to the Diocesan Caritas of Setúbal, where he led the organization from 1987 until 2016. In 1999, he was appointed by the Portuguese Episcopal Conference to preside over Caritas at the national level.

During his tenure, Fonseca played a significant role in promoting solidarity actions and support for the most disadvantaged in Portugal. His leadership was marked by a strong commitment to volunteering and social assistance.

In addition to his work in Setúbal, Fonseca contributed to the development of national initiatives, reinforcing the importance of voluntary work in the country.
