Dams and natural gas maintained electrical balance during eclipse
During the solar eclipse, REN ensured the stability of the electrical system with hydroelectric and natural gas production.

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais announced that the electrical system was adequately balanced during the recent solar eclipse. Hydroelectric production played a crucial role, reaching about 5 GW at the peak impact of the phenomenon, complemented by natural gas production.
According to REN, there was a temporary reduction in photovoltaic production during the eclipse, which could have compromised electrical supply. However, the combination of hydroelectric generation and natural gas ensured the continuous energy supply without interruptions.

REN closely monitored the eclipse, activating measures to ensure the safety of the electrical system. Data indicates that, despite the decrease in solar production, supply remained stable and secure.
This event highlights the importance of renewable energy sources and the responsiveness of the electrical system, especially in situations that can cause fluctuations in energy production. The efficiency of dams and natural gas was key to mitigating the effects of the eclipse.
