Assam to Require Over ₹1,000 Crore for Flood Rehabilitation: Himanta Sarma
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the estimated cost for rehabilitating flood victims and mentioned ongoing fundraising efforts.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, stated that over ₹1,000 crore is likely needed for the rehabilitation of flood victims in the state. He highlighted that a survey is ongoing and will continue until August 30, aiming to assess the impact on approximately 50,000 to 60,000 families in the Upper districts significantly affected by the recent floods.
As of now, officials have conducted damage assessments for around 8,000 properties, with the estimated loss calculated at nearly ₹200 crore. Sarma indicated that this figure might increase as assessments continue. Additionally, he noted that 72 social media influencers from Assam and outside the state are engaged in raising funds for flood relief efforts.
The flooding in Assam has led to substantial damage, prompting the government to mobilize resources for recovery and support for the affected communities.
